Alalnath Temple

  • Orissa

This temple is situated one hour away south west of Puri. Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu, while staying in Puri, would often come here to rest. It is a very old temple and is managed by the committee of Jagannath Temple. Foreigners are not allowed to visit this temple. Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu paid His obeisances to Alalnath (the deity of Krsna) on a piece of stone and that stone got melted. This melted stone can be seen in the temple compound even today.

The best way to visit Puri and around is to rent or chart a taxi because each place is an hour away from the temple. It will save time and also the difficulties of walking will be reduced. If you follow this suggestion you will return happy and not tired.

—Sri Dhari Tika, 35

“The purpose of going to holy places should be to associate with great saintly persons because by the influence of their association, one develops the taste to hear the transcendental vibration of Krsna. By seeing saintly person, by touching the saintly person, or by hearing him speak, one develops great faith in the Supreme Personality of Godhead. When faith is developed, one thinks, ‘Oh, let me hear what subject this saintly person is talking about.’ At that time, while listening to the transcendental narration of Supreme Lord Sri Hari, one manifests a taste for serving the Supreme Lord. In other words, by listening to great saintly person, one immediately develops the taste in his heart for serving the Lord.”
